Welcome to Lyme Regis! This, the third annual Fossil Festival, is brought to you by a team comprising a wonderful eclectic mix of organisations: august science institutes, universities, the local community including the Town’s Museum, Charmouth Heritage Centre the Jurassic Coast World Heritage team and many others.

The publication in February of the United Nations IPCC Report on Climate Change makes this a very good time to stage Rising Seas – Lyme Regis Fossil Festival 2007.

Rising Seas Lyme Regis Fossil Festival 2007 tells the story:

  • Past environments that have existed along the Jurassic Coast
  • Climate change in the here and now and how it is different from the past
  • Lyme Regis coastal protection scheme, an engineering solution to safeguard a seaside town.
  • The remarkable life and times of fossil hunter and expert Mary Anning

This year, we are lucky to have some very distinguished experts – both on hand during the day and providing some stimulating talks on Friday and Saturday evenings. There’s an impressive range of organisations represented in the Theatre and the marquees – all well worth a visit – and for the younger visitor, there are loads of arts and fossil based activities to join. There are organised walks throughout the week end, and some entertainment provided by the remarkable Herbie, The Time Travellers and Harry & His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs.

Don't Forget - bring your fossil specimens to be identified - The Natural History Museum have a team of world-class experts here all weekend.

Note that on Friday 4th May, certain exhibits are being devoted exclusively to school parties during the school hours 0900 to 1530.
